Many of my blogpost in photography website are divided into different categories, for example:
Today we will talk about how to add (or delete) different categories in WordPress.
There are two ways of adding categories in WordPress
Adding categories from the dashboard
- Go to the dashboard
- Under Posts scroll down to Categories
- Under “Add Category” type the name of the category you want to create
- If your category is a subset of a larger category, assign it a “Category Parent”
- You can also add a description, this could be good to tell your readers and it can be good for the search engines
Adding categories from a blogpost
When you write a new blogpost, when you are about to assign a category, you can simply add a new category that didn’t exist before.
Deleting a category
To delete a category:
- go to categories
- on the right side you will see name and description
- hover over the category you want to delete and you will see an option to delete
- Simply click delete
Editing Categories
When you hover over a category, you will see the options of “Quick edit” or “Edit” both of those two options allow you to change the name or description of a category.
