How to install a WordPress website on your computer

In the last blog post, we talked about how to find a host to install your website.

But what about if you are just learning about WordPress and you are not ready yet to publish a website?

What about if would like to practice your website design skills without paying for hosting?

What if you would like to install WordPress in your own computer and just practice there, and then once you get better, you will pay for hosting and put your website live on the internet?

I have a solution for you.

It’s called Local Hosting.

With Local hosting, you will install WordPress on your computer and your computer will act as the server. Your website will de displayed just as it’s displayed on the internet. You will be able to practice as much as you want without worrying that someone would see your work or that you are paying hosting for nothing.

Once you have have created a website to your liking, then you can buy hosting and upload your website to the hosting company.

Any of these options are fine, but we are going to be working with Local by Flywheel.

Once you install Local, the software takes care of creating the database and installing WordPress along with the default themes and plugins. It’s a really easy one step solution .

How to install Local

  • Once we go to Localwp.com you will need to create an account.
  • Click “Download.” The process may take a few minutes.
  • Click “Create New Site.”
  • Give your site a name.
  • Click “Continue.”
  • Set up the WordPress log in Name and Password. Since this will be a practice website installed on your own computer, security is not a major concern.
  • Click “Add Site.” At this point, local will finish the installation of WordPress.
  • Once the website is installed, click “Open Site.”
  • The new website should open in your browser.
  • Log in.

And that’s it. You already have WordPress installed on your computer and you can practice as much as you like.
